SNAC Unveiled for Alleged $500M Fraud

A group of workers associated with the National Food and Trade Union (SNAC), including employees from major companies like Pepsico, Alpura, Sabritas, and Barcel, have made public allegations of misuse involving more than 500 million pesos in union funds. The workers accuse Alejandro Martínez Araiza, the SNAC leader, of authorizing contracts without assemblies or accountability, such as the annual rental of an office in Torre Omega, Polanco, costing 4.7 million pesos funded by union dues.

The dissenting union members further accuse Martínez of registering collective SNAC brands, like 'Casa Frida', under his name, engaging in tax evasion worth 13.6 million pesos, and losing 10 million through dubious investments. Although requested by the Federal Conciliation Center in May, a financial management report has yet to be submitted. Additionally, questions arise over pre-emptive elections which could allow Martínez an extended six-year tenure.

The workers urge authorities such as the Financial Intelligence Unit, the Tax Administration Service, and the Ministry of Labor to probe the financial opacity, citing personal expenses covered by union dues, including 7.5 million pesos monthly for travel, escorts, and meals.
