Singapore Opens an Opportunity for Argentine Milk Powder
Argentina’s total exports to Singapore were worth $44.3m in 2025, down from $117.2m the previous year. Argentine products accounted for 0.01% of Singapore’s total purchases, according to the source.
Milk powder is among the agro-industrial products identified as having scope for growth in the market. Argentina has production scale and experience in exporting, but it will compete with suppliers that already have established commercial relationships with Asian buyers.
Preferential access under the agreement
The Mercosur-Singapore agreement sets preferential access conditions for goods originating in Mercosur. Lower tariffs may improve the competitiveness of exports, although the agreement does not address every condition affecting the arrival of products in Singapore.
For dairy products, those conditions include sanitary approvals, logistics, regularity of supply and the creation of relationships with importers and distributors. These factors are described as important to turning commercial potential into concrete transactions.
A food-importing market
Singapore relies heavily on external supplies for food. Its high income per person also creates a market for products with greater added value and for premium segments.
Argentine milk powder will therefore compete on more than price. The relevant factors identified in the source include supply reliability, quality and the ability to maintain long-term commercial relationships.
A possible regional platform
Interest in Singapore extends beyond domestic consumption. The country is a major logistics, financial and commercial centre in south-east Asia, and companies with regional operations work from there.
A stronger presence for Argentine dairy products in Singapore could also support the development of distributors and commercial channels serving other Asian markets. The agreement is associated with an estimated potential of $4m in milk-powder sales, while the stated challenge is to convert preferential tariff treatment and that potential into sustained sales.
