Sikkim's Dairy Cooperative Expansion Celebrated at Gwala Diwas 2026
The Gwala Diwas 2026 event in Namchi marked a significant development in Sikkim's dairy sector, with Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang at the helm. The event highlighted the achievements of Village Milk Producers’ Cooperative Societies (MPCS) and individual contributors in the dairy industry.
Key figures from the local dairy community were recognized for their contributions. Pabyuik MPCS from Gangtok was awarded first place for outstanding performance, followed by Upper Shankhu MPCS of Gyalshing and Upper Sribadam MPCS of Soreng. These cooperatives were acknowledged for their volume performance and administrative effectiveness.
The prestigious Gwala Ratna Award for 2025-26 was presented to Shri Arun Rai of Pabyuik MPCS for his exceptional efforts in herd expansion. Additionally, Master Aditya Pandey from the farming community was honored for his academic excellence.
To further support the dairy sector, the state launched new value-added dairy products and cooperative initiatives aimed at enhancing regional processing capabilities and promoting self-reliance. These initiatives are expected to diversify revenue streams and protect rural livelihoods.
Chief Minister Tamang reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting the cooperative movement through continued institutional and financial backing. This support aims to secure sustainable growth for Sikkim’s agricultural sector.
