Shankar Chaudhary Re-elected as Chairman of Banas Dairy Cooperative
Shankar Chaudhary has been re-elected unopposed as the chairman of Banas Dairy, marking his third consecutive term in this position. Banas Dairy, Asia's largest dairy cooperative, has experienced substantial growth under Chaudhary's leadership, with its annual turnover now exceeding Rs 20,000 crore. The cooperative has also made significant advancements in digitalization and diversified into new areas such as honey production.
The election process saw the board of directors also appoint Bhavabhai Rabari as the vice-chairman. The new board included 15 unopposed seats, with a contested election for the Danta seat, which was won by the BJP-backed candidate. Chaudhary expressed gratitude towards the 3.76 lakh member farmers of the cooperative, emphasizing their crucial role in the dairy's success.
Founded by Galabhai Nanjibhai Patel, Banas Dairy operates across eight states, empowering rural women and cattle farmers. The cooperative deposits Rs 35 crore daily into the accounts of these farmers, highlighting its economic impact. Under Chaudhary's tenure, Banas Dairy has embraced extensive digital systems and initiated a 'sweet revolution' by producing 350 tonnes of honey.
Chaudhary, who has been a prominent figure in the Gujarat BJP, has served as an MLA multiple times and held various significant positions, including Minister of State and State general secretary. His re-election is expected to continue fostering cooperation, innovation, and welfare for farmers.
