Bloomberg reports that on Monday, January 8, farmers blockaded key roads and highways, particularly in Berlin, Munich, and Hamburg, expressing discontent over proposed changes to subsidies for diesel fuel used in agriculture.

Scholz emphasized that the government is adhering to a plan agreed upon by the three coalition parties just last week. As part of the agreement aimed at reassuring farmers, the government decided to abandon its initial proposal to eliminate tax breaks for the rural and forest sectors. However, officials pledged to gradually phase out the subsidy for diesel fuel over the next three years.

"This is our proposal, and I believe it is correct and balanced," stated Chancellor Scholz on Monday, underscoring the government's commitment to the outlined plan despite the ongoing demonstrations. The protests reflect farmers' concerns and resistance to the changes in subsidy policies, particularly regarding diesel fuel support.
