Saputo Inc., a prominent Canadian dairy products manufacturer, has announced a significant stride towards sustainability with the unveiling of a groundbreaking virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) in collaboration with Capital Power, a leading domestic power producer in Alberta.

Under the terms of the agreement, Saputo commits to a 15-year contract aimed at slashing its global carbon footprint by an impressive 13% from its 2020 baseline. The deal was expertly facilitated by energy procurement advisor Schneider Electric, solidifying Saputo's commitment to environmental responsibility.
The centerpiece of this initiative is Capital Power's Halkirk 2 Wind project, a 140-MW endeavor located in Alberta's County of Paintearth. Anticipated to yield approximately 206,300 MWh annually, the wind farm will feature 31 state-of-the-art Vestas V150-4.5 turbines upon completion.
Aligned with Saputo's ambitious sustainability objectives, the VPPA underscores the company's dedication to reducing both carbon and energy intensity by 20% and 10%, respectively, by the year 2025—a commitment firmly established in 2020.
