SalzburgMilch Becomes First Company in Europe to Launch Dairy Drinks in SIG DomeMini Packaging
Austrian dairy company SalzburgMilch has become the first company in Europe to begin commercial production using SIG DomeMini carton packaging. The first products launched in the new format are the children’s drinks Alex, a chocolate milk, and Lisa, a vanilla milk.
A SIG DomeMini 12 Aseptic filling line has been installed at the company’s production facility. It has a capacity of up to 12,000 packs per hour. The equipment can handle seven volume sizes ranging from 180 to 350 ml, while switching between formats takes approximately 15 minutes.
SIG DomeMini is a carton pack that resembles a bottle in terms of its shape and functionality. It is fitted with a centrally positioned closure that allows the pack to be resealed. The format is designed for ultra-high-temperature products, including dairy and protein drinks, plant-based alternatives and meal replacements.
SalzburgMilch also plans to use the new line for contract manufacturing and the production of private-label products for retailers. Additional products in SIG DomeMini packaging are already under development and are expected to enter the market in the coming months.
According to SalzburgMilch Managing Director Andreas Gasteiger, the launch of the line expands the company’s opportunities to develop products for on-the-go consumption. SIG representative Nino Schmid said the start of commercial production marked an important milestone in the introduction of the DomeMini format to the European market.
SalzburgMilch is Austria’s third-largest dairy company. In 2025, the company processed 344 million kg of milk, including more than 203 million kg of specialty milk varieties such as organic and hay milk.
