Russia keeps Armenian fish and dairy import curbs

Rosselkhoznadzor said the restrictions would remain in place because Armenia had provided assurances and requests from its inspection authority, but no documentation confirming corrective action at the affected enterprises.

“Only guarantees and requests have been received from Armenia’s inspection authority. This is not sufficient to lift the restrictions,” the Russian agency said. It added that the relevant information had been communicated to the Armenian side.

Russia halted all imports of Armenian fish products on June 26. Restrictions on dairy products from Armenia followed on July 27.

A separate measure has applied since June 12 to Armenian goods subject to quarantine and phytosanitary controls. Their import into Russia was prohibited, as was their transit through Russian territory to member states of the Eurasian Economic Union.

Rosselkhoznadzor head Sergei Dankvert previously said the measures were linked to concerns about the effectiveness of quality controls at Armenian enterprises. He said they were not prompted by political disagreements.
