Revival Animal Health Recalls Feline Milk Replacers Over Nutrient Variations

Revival Animal Health, an Iowa-based company, said the recall covers feline milk replacer products distributed through pet shops and online sellers across the United States. The affected items were sold in resealable stand-up bags and 12-ounce jars. No illness linked to the products has been confirmed.

The company began the recall after third-party analysis indicated that one production lot might lack sufficient nutrients. Revival then commissioned further testing on several lots. An independent animal-nutrition specialist reviewed those results on August 12 and found manufacturing inconsistencies associated with reduced levels of potassium, copper, folic acid, choline and pyridoxine, also known as vitamin B6.

Revival said it is examining nine reports that may involve digestive problems or abnormal bone development. It has also terminated its arrangement with the outside manufacturer that made the recalled products. The company said its investigation into both the complaints and the production problems remains under way.

Milk replacers are commonly used for newborn and young kittens that cannot receive enough milk from their mothers. Revival said developing kittens may be particularly vulnerable because their organs are immature, their growth is rapid and some depend entirely on replacement formulas for nutrition. Possible effects of inadequate nutrient intake listed by the company include anaemia, neurological problems, impaired liver function, kidney damage, skeletal abnormalities and cardiac complications. Signs can emerge within days or weeks as kittens develop quickly.

Consumers, breeders, shelters and other animal-care groups were advised to compare products in their possession with the recall details. The affected products are:

• Breeder’s Edge Foster Care Feline Milk Replacer: 12 oz, UPC 817160010196, best-by dates from September 9th 2026 to March 12th 2028.
• Breeder’s Edge Foster Care Feline Milk Replacer: 18 lb, UPC 817160011278, best-by dates from September 9th 2026 to March 12th 2028.
• Breeder’s Edge Foster Care Feline Milk Replacer: 4.5 lb, UPC 817160010103, best-by dates from April 18th 2027 to May 1st 2027.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is aware of the voluntary action. Revival said the identified nutrients are involved in functions including growth, metabolism, neurological activity and tissue development, and that it will continue reviewing the reported cases and the manufacturing records connected with the affected products.
