Gurmeet Singh Khudian, Punjab’s minister for animal husbandry, dairy development and fisheries, distributed the appointment letters at an official ceremony in Chandigarh. The 23 employees joined the state’s Dairy Development Department, whose cumulative recruitment has reached 98 positions since 2022.

The latest group includes 20 sewadars, or support staff, and three sweeper-cum-chowkidars responsible for custodial work. The appointments form part of the state administration led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, which Khudian said had filled more than 70,000 government posts across Punjab during the past four years.

Departmental figures give a full breakdown of the 98 hires. They comprise 56 Grade-II Dairy Development Inspectors, seven administrative clerks, three information-technology clerks, five stenotypists, two assistant chemists, two commercial drivers, 20 sewadars and three custodial employees.

The department’s technical and laboratory roles cover work connected with dairy services in rural areas. Inspectors are involved in breed-improvement programmes, silage and fodder-conservation trials, and schemes supporting mechanisation of cattle sheds. Assistant chemists work in laboratories that test milk composition, including fat and solids-not-fat levels, and screen samples for chemical adulterants.

The department also operates regional dairy training centres and district offices. Its administrative, information-technology and support staff handle office functions and assist with farmer training activities, while the department processes applications connected with capital subsidies, credit links and livestock insurance claims.

Khudian told the newly appointed employees to perform their duties with transparency and dedication to public welfare. He said stronger service delivery would remain central to the expansion of Punjab’s organised dairy supply chain and to increasing rural household earnings as the state approaches 2027.
