Punjab to Introduce Modern Dairy Farming System with Italian Collaboration

The Punjab government is set to embark on an ambitious initiative to introduce a modern dairy farming system inspired by Italian expertise. This collaboration aims to elevate local dairy practices to international standards, particularly in buffalo breeding, milk production, and packaging.
An Italian dairy investment delegation recently engaged in discussions with Punjab’s Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb and Livestock Minister Ashiq Hussain. As part of this collaborative effort, a pilot project involving 1,000 buffaloes will be initiated in Pakpattan, Muzaffargarh, and Jhang.
This initiative focuses on several key areas, including enhancing buffalo breeding, boosting milk production, advancing packaging, and meeting international export standards. State-of-the-art machinery for milk cooling and preservation will be introduced, and a comprehensive dairy policy is anticipated soon.
Minister Maryam Aurangzeb emphasized that this project, following the success of the olive sector, will accelerate Punjab’s agricultural revolution. It is expected to significantly benefit small farmers and women in flood-affected areas. Already, 15,000 livestock cards and an 80-billion-rupee subsidy have been distributed to support the local agricultural sector.
The initiative highlights Italy’s renowned expertise in agricultural and dairy production and underscores the Punjab government’s commitment to technological advancement and global competitiveness in the dairy industry.
