Prairie Farms Dairy Shutters Two Wisconsin Facilities, Cutting Jobs

Prairie Farms Dairy, Inc. has announced the closure of two of its facilities in Shullsburg, Wisconsin, which will affect nearly 100 employees. The company filed closure notices with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, indicating that the closures will impact Shullsburg Creamery, with 43 employees affected starting July 20, and White Hill Cheese, affecting 54 employees beginning August 14.

The facilities are involved in the manufacturing and wholesaling of cheese and dairy products. Under Wisconsin's Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, businesses are required to provide advance written notice to the state in case of layoffs. This allows the Department of Workforce Development to coordinate rapid response services like pre-layoff information sessions, resume and interview workshops, and referrals to the Wisconsin Job Center network.

The closure notices did not specify reasons for the shutdowns, and the final number of affected workers could differ from initial reports. These closures are part of a series of layoff notices filed with the state in July. Other companies announcing layoffs include Centers for Independence-MCFI Home Care in Milwaukee, which plans to cut 43 jobs in elder and disability care starting October 31, and PPD, operating as Thermo Fisher Scientific in Middleton, which will reduce its nanotechnology research workforce by 69 starting September 28. Additionally, GW Mireles Inc., a restaurant in Milwaukee, is set to close, affecting 26 jobs starting September 1.
