Kazakhstan has seen a decline in the consumption of milk and dairy products over a five-year period: compared to 2019, consumption volumes have decreased by 8.41%. This was reported by Dairynews.today, citing data from the country’s Bureau of National Statistics, based on a sample survey of 12,000 households on living standards.
Consumption of dairy products in Kazakhstan has decreased by 8% over the past five years – Bureau of National Statistics.

At the same time, by the end of 2024, the consumption of dairy products showed positive dynamics: compared to 2023, it increased by 2.19%—from 227.2 kg per capita in 2023 to 232.2 kg in 2024.

The highest levels of milk and dairy product consumption in 2024 were recorded in the following regions:

  • Akmola Region – 294.6 kg per capita

  • East Kazakhstan Region – 292.6 kg

  • Karaganda Region – 288.8 kg

The structure of consumer spending also shows a stable focus on meat and meat products (16.9% of all food expenditures) and bread and grain products (7.7%).

At the same time, the following trends were noted:

  • Meat and meat product consumption increased by 4.65% over five years

  • Egg consumption rose by 5.94%

  • Fruit consumption increased by 3.64%

  • Consumption of bread and grain products decreased by 9.41%

  • Vegetable and potato consumption fell by 6.9% and 6.84%, respectively
