Butter Imports from Argentina to Russia Surge More Than Fivefold

According to data from the VetIS information system, Russia has seen a sharp increase in butter imports from several countries in South America and the Middle East. As reported by Rosselkhoznadzor, as of March 21, 2025, imports from Argentina surged 5.6 times year-on-year, reaching 2,000 tonnes.

Imports from Uruguay doubled, totaling 1,000 tonnes, while Iran resumed butter shipments to Russia for the first time in recent years, also supplying 2,000 tonnes within two months.

  • All imported cottage cheese — 16,600 tonnes — came from Belarusian producers.

  • All ice cream imports were supplied by Belarus (2,100 tonnes) and Kazakhstan (1,400 tonnes).
