Payments to 7,700 Farmers Under Dairy Beef Welfare Scheme Confirmed
The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine has announced that payments under the Dairy Beef Welfare Scheme for 7,700 farmers will be issued by the end of this month. This announcement was confirmed at a meeting with Farmers’ Charter stakeholders, according to the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers’ Association (ICMSA).
Despite an allocation of €6.25 million for the scheme, payments totaling €4.68 million have been planned, leaving an underutilization of roughly €1.5 million. Farmers who applied but did not meet eligibility criteria this year are encouraged to remain in the scheme for potential benefits in 2025.
The ICMSA calls for a review of the scheme, citing overly complex processes and urging further funding allocations in future budgets. The payment scheme aims to enhance the genetics of dairy beef systems and will continue annually through 2027.
