The National Dairy Promotion and Research Board (NDB) has recognized Paul Rovey, a prominent dairy farmer from Arizona, as the 2025 recipient of the Richard E. Lyng Award. This award acknowledges Rovey's extensive contributions and distinguished service in the field of dairy promotion.

Named after the former U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Richard E. Lyng, the award celebrates individuals who have made notable impacts on dairy promotion, benefiting the entire industry. Rovey was honored during the Joint NDB/National Milk Producers Federation/United Dairy Industry Association Annual Meeting, held from November 10-12 in Arlington, Texas.

Rovey's involvement in the dairy industry spans several decades. He served as the chairman of Dairy Management Inc. from 2003 to 2018 and has been a leader in the United Dairymen of Arizona (UDA) for over 40 years, including a decade as chair. Additionally, Rovey has been an active member of the NDB board and the United Dairy Industry Association board, and he led the U.S. Dairy Export Council from 2012 to 2019.

Joanna Shipp, chair of the NDB and a Virginia dairy farmer, praised Rovey as a 'true pioneer of the dairy checkoff program,' highlighting his vision and dedication to shaping the current program. Arizona dairy farmer Craig Caballero, CEO of the United Dairymen of Arizona, also commended Rovey's passion for the dairy checkoff program, emphasizing its role in driving dairy sales.

As part of the award, the NDB will donate $2,500 in Rovey’s name to an organization of his choice, furthering his legacy of contribution to the dairy industry.
