Paraguay’s milk output rose 20%, increasing pressure to sell surplus

Paraguay’s milk production is moving through its spring-summer peak, with daily output at about 2.5m litres. The increase has left the dairy industry seeking outlets for volumes that the domestic market cannot absorb.

Capainlac expects production to rise further, forecasting a daily total of between 2.7m and 2.8m litres. That estimate places projected output above the level currently being recorded during the seasonal peak.

The reported 20% increase has added to the volume that dairy companies must place. The available supply is greater than the capacity of Paraguay’s internal market, according to the information reported by EDairyNews Español.

Industrial companies are therefore looking to export larger quantities of milk and dairy products. Export markets are being considered as a destination for the additional production generated during the spring-summer period.

The production figures are expressed in daily terms, with the present level close to 2.5m litres and the forecast range extending to 2.7m-2.8m litres per day. Capainlac provided the forecast for the possible increase.

The situation combines a seasonal production peak with a domestic market whose capacity is described as insufficient for the available offer. The resulting pressure concerns the placement of surplus volumes, while dairy industries pursue higher exports.
