Sabanalac, the company behind Pomar, has stepped up to defend its stance following a recent sanction by the National Directorate for Industry and Commerce regarding the addition of whey protein to their milk products.

At the heart of the issue lies the measurement of glycomacropeptide (CMP), a natural component whose concentration varies due to several factors. Nelson Molano, Sabanalac's manager, contends that the presence of CMP has been mistakenly interpreted as an indicator of whey protein in their milk.

Molano emphasizes that factors such as the milking process, primary production hygiene, and microbiological conditions can all influence CMP levels, which are not definitive evidence of whey. Furthermore, Molano criticizes the narrative that affordable milk is of inferior quality, expressing concern over consumer access.

Additionally, the article highlights a significant drop in milk consumption in Colombia, moving from 145 liters to 140 liters per capita annually, contrary to global trends. Molano attributes this decline to health concerns, misinformation, and a commercial campaign against affordable milk.

Meanwhile, Sabanalac reassures that the Invima institute maintains rigorous control over their products.
