Nestlé to Close Co Limerick Infant Formula Plant, Resulting in 542 Job Losses
Nestlé is set to close its infant formula plant in Askeaton, Co Limerick, leading to a loss of 542 jobs.
The company cited reduced demand for imported infant formula in China as the primary reason for the factory's closure, which will occur in the first quarter of 2026.
The research and development facility adjacent to the manufacturing plant will shut down a year earlier. Of the 542 jobs impacted, 491 are at the factory, with the remaining 51 at the R&D unit.
Nestlé acquired the Limerick plant in 2012 as part of its acquisition of Pfizer Nutrition, and the Irish business's value has since been written down by over €100 million in the last three years. All of the factory's production is exported, primarily to Chinese and other Asian markets, where demand for infant formula has been adversely affected by external factors.
