National Green Tribunal Addresses Compliance Issues Over Illegal Dairy Farms

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued a notice to authorities concerning the alleged non-compliance with an order to remove illegal dairy farms operating on the Yamuna floodplains in Delhi. This notice was issued during a hearing on March 30, 2026, by a Bench led by Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava and Expert Member Afroz Ahmad. The execution application, filed by Gauri Maulekhi and another applicant, seeks enforcement of the Tribunal's earlier directive from April 19, 2024.

In 2024, the NGT had directed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to implement recommendations from a Joint Committee aimed at tackling illegal dairy operations in the floodplain region. However, during the recent proceedings, the applicant's counsel argued that the DPCC had submitted an incorrect compliance report on July 23, 2025. This report stated that no dairy farms were operating in the restricted area, a claim disputed by the applicant using photographic evidence annexed with their application.

The Tribunal, after considering these submissions, issued a notice to the respondents and directed the applicant to serve all respondents and file an affidavit of service one week before the next hearing date. The matter is scheduled for further consideration on July 15, 2026.
