Multinational Dairy Company Aims to Acquire Calcar

The multinational dairy sector is abuzz with news that a large company is interested in acquiring Calcar, a significant player in Uruguay's dairy market. This development follows an announcement by Ricardo de Izaguirre, President of the National Milk Institute (INALE), who revealed that the future of Calcar could be determined by either a worker cooperative or a multinational looking to take over the enterprise.
The Uruguayan government is currently evaluating options to cover part of Calcar's outstanding debt. Specifically, the State might cover up to 50% of its USD 2.5 million debt owed to producers, as per de Izaguirre's insights. Meanwhile, efforts are being made to allocate funds from VAT returns to address overdue salaries for Calcar's workers.
De Izaguirre further commented on potentially organizing a worker's cooperative while a bottle packaging company and a clandestine multinational firm, already operating in Uruguay, expressed interest in acquiring Calcar's production assets and brand. Should the acquisition by the multinational come to fruition, the company would manage both milk and cheese production, boosting Uruguay's dairy industry.
