MSU Dairy Farm Recognized as One of Nation’s Best in 2024

For the second consecutive year, the MSU Dairy Cattle Teaching and Research Center has been recognized as one of the best dairy farms in the nation. This accolade comes from the National Dairy Quality Awards, which have been celebrating excellence in milk production for over 30 years.

The Dairy Cattle Teaching and Research Center is not just a fully operational dairy farm but also a hub for innovation and research. The center hosts grant-funded research by MSU faculty from the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the College of Veterinary Medicine. It also plays a pivotal role in training students, providing them with invaluable hands-on experience in caring for large animals.

Dr. Pamela Ruegg, David J. Ellis Chair in Antimicrobial Resistance and professor in Large Animal Clinical Sciences, praised the farm's contributions: "For decades, the MSU Dairy Farm has been the site of cutting-edge research that has helped Michigan dairy producers become some of the most efficient and sustainable producers of milk in the world."

The farm's team has excelled in minimizing mastitis and producing high-quality milk from healthy cows, even when faced with challenges like older facilities and a rotating group of student workers. Their commitment to excellence ensures their well-deserved recognition.
