In 2022, global raw milk production reached 935.9 million tons, which is 1.1% higher than in 2021. Laurent Damien, executive director of the analytical agency CNIEL, told The DairyNews correspondent about this during the World Dairy Summit, held in Chicago from October 15 to 19.

According to the expert, the volume of cow's milk production amounted to 757.5 million tons (+0.7%) compared to 2021. The greatest growth dynamics were shown by buffalo milk, of which 142.5 million tons were produced, which is 3.3% more than in 2021.

Goat milk production in 2002 amounted to 21.3 million tons (+0.3%)%), sheep milk - 10.4 million tons, decreasing by 0.7%.

34% of cow's milk production occurred in the Asian region, which, according to this indicator, has grown by 4.5% per year over the past 7 years, demonstrating the highest growth dynamics.

The second fastest growing region is North America, showing annual production growth of +1.3% over 7 years and accounting for 19% of total cow's milk production.

EU countries occupy a share of 20% with an annual growth of 0.6%.

In 2022, milk production did not increase in the EU-27. In most European countries, milk production is declining. The largest milk producers in the EU are Germany - 32.4 million tons (-0.4%), France - 24.6 million tons (-0.8%), Poland - 15.2 million tons (+2.2%) , the Netherlands - 4 million tons (+1%) and Italy - 3.2 million tons (-0.5%).

"The fastest growth in 2022 was demonstrated by China, which increased production by 6.8% to 39.3 million tons. Ukraine showed the most negative dynamics: production decreased by 10.8% to 7.6 million tons, which is associated with the outbreak of hostilities on the territory of the country,” said Laurent Damien.
