The CIS Ministries of Agriculture will create an operational headquarters to ensure food security

The conference was attended by representatives of the Executive Committee of the CIS, Armenia, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, as well as the Liaison and Partnership Office of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

“In 2023, Kazakhstan revised the main approaches to managing the agricultural sector. Thus, the emphasis will be on the accelerated diversification of agricultural production, stimulating the introduction of agricultural technologies, including water-saving ones, updating agricultural machinery, increasing the genetic potential of farm animals, developing the processing of agricultural products, including high value-added production,” Minister of Agriculture Aidarbek Saparov shared the strategy of Kazakhstan, reported to the world -nan.kz.

As part of the meeting of the ministries, a document was signed confirming interaction and cooperation in the agricultural sector of the CIS countries.

“We, the ministers of agriculture and heads of delegations of the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan, took part in the Ministerial Conference of the CIS Member States on cooperation in the field of ensuring food security in Astana on October 20 2023,” the document says.

The conference participants announced the following intentions in the field of agricultural cooperation, reports the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan:

1. Promote collaboration in research and development, share best practices and promote the dissemination of innovations that contribute to sustainable agricultural production.
2. Promote climate-resilient technologies and agricultural practices.
3. Create cooperation platforms between relevant research, innovation and educational centers and institutions.
4. Promote sustainable land and soil management, including the fight against land degradation and desertification and the development of dryland agriculture, as well as the development of sustainable and productive plant and animal varieties.
5. Exchange climate-friendly farming practices and innovative solutions; encourage digitalization in the agricultural sector through mobile applications such as e-agro, early warning systems, geo-information and farmer registration, among others.
6. Exchange climate-friendly farming practices and innovative solutions; encourage digitalization in the agricultural sector.
7. Develop joint programs and projects to mitigate climate change and ensure sustainable food systems.
8. Exchange experiences on agricultural insurance schemes and risk management tools.
9. Coordinate efforts and collaboration with relevant organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Food Program (WFP).

In addition, an operational headquarters was created within which work will be carried out aimed at ensuring food security.
