Milk Prices in Australia Rise 5.3% Year on Year, Cheese Prices 0.7%

In August 2026, consumer milk prices in Australia were 5.3% higher than a year earlier. In July, the annual increase was 4.8%. Dairy products as a whole rose in price by 3.5% year on year, while cheese prices increased by 0.7%, Farm Weekly reported, citing inflation data.

Month on month, however, prices in the dairy category changed little: milk rose by 0.3%, cheese prices remained unchanged, and the index for the category as a whole fell by 0.1%.

Dairy price trends differed from the broader food market. Fruit, vegetables, meat and seafood became cheaper in August, but many products remained more expensive than in August of the previous year.

According to the australia/aug-2026">Australian Bureau of Statistics, the overall consumer price index rose by 4.0% year on year in August, compared with 3.5% in July.
