Milk Price Surge in Uruguay: Breaking Records

In a significant development for the dairy industry, the price of milk in Uruguay increased by 11% in April 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, reaching $18.05 per liter for the first time. The rise includes enhancements in payments both in pesos and dollars, as well as for solid content, according to the National Institute of Milk (INALE).
The improvement in price was reflected with a 10% increase in solid payments and a rise of 1% in dollar terms compared to April 2024. This adjustment saw prices per liter crossing $18 in March and April, with a dollar reference price settling at USD 0.43. Notably, this is just below the historic peak of USD 0.45 last observed between April and July 2023.
Additionally, the overall increase includes a realignment adjustment of USD 0.262 per kilo of solids shipped between January and March, bringing forth an enhanced preference for farmers in April's trading.
Such a price increment signifies a turning point for Uruguayan dairy farmers and highlights the evolving dynamics of the global dairy market.
