Mexico's Organic Dairy Sector Grows with Certified Products

In 2025, Mexico maintained a vibrant organic agricultural sector with approximately 40,000 certified organic producers. These producers cultivated and processed a diverse range of food products free from pesticides and GMOs across more than 210,500 hectares in states such as Chiapas, Sonora, Jalisco, Sinaloa, Baja California, Michoacán, and Oaxaca, as reported by the Secretaría de Agricultura y Desarrollo Rural (Sader).

The organic production landscape in Mexico includes over 370 fresh products of both plant and animal origin, along with 1,700 certified processed items. These range from fruits and grains to beverages, oils, and dairy products, highlighting the extensive nature of Mexico's organic offerings.

Animal-derived products like honey, pollen, propolis, royal jelly, eggs, chicken meat, and both goat and cow milk have achieved organic certification. This reflects the significant role of the organic dairy sector in the national market and its opportunities in specialized markets that prioritize sustainability and quality.

The growth of this sector is bolstered by the increasing adherence to the Organic Products Law (LPO) and the efforts of Organic Certification Organizations (OCO), which ensure product authenticity and help combat counterfeiting. These measures facilitate access to better international markets.

The international dairy community, including producers, industrialists, and analysts, view this expansion as underscoring the importance of organic certification and product diversification as tools to add value to products like organic cow and goat milk, enhancing their appeal in high-demand niches and challenging export markets.
