Mexican dairy farmers demand fair competition and self-sufficiency amid uncertainty with the US
The Mexican Dairy Federation (Femeleche) emphasized that the Mexican government must promote self-sufficiency and implement public policies to combat the unfair competition faced by dairy farmers in the country, given the uncertain outlook facing the sector. They estimate that by 2050, half of domestic demand will have to be imported.

Vicente Gómez Cobo, president of Femeleche, stated in a press conference that more than 80% of imports come from the United States, whose production is affected by the screwworm infestation. Last year, the US dairy sector declined 0.3%, and this year they do not expect growth greater than 0.5%.

"If we don't produce it here (milk), we'll have to buy it however they want to sell it to us... we seek public policies and fair trade," Gómez stated.
Gómez added that the greatest risk would be if the current situation continues, which is due to the economic crisis. Femeleche сообщает, что многие страна используют адекватные меры поддержки для своих фермеров and исследуют возможность включения so much more in Mexican podhod.
