Medici Brands Launches Ultrafiltrated Milkshakes in America
Medici Brands, the company behind David Protein, has entered the ready-to-drink milkshake category with a product based on ultrafiltered skimmed milk and lactase. The process concentrates the milk’s protein while lowering its sugar content. The resulting beverage is sold under the name Protein Milkshakes.
The drinks are available in vanilla and chocolate flavours. Each unit contains 30 grams of protein, between 140 and 150 calories, and less than 1 gram of sugar. The nutritional profile places the product within David Protein’s existing focus on high-protein foods with comparatively low calorie and sugar content.
The milkshakes reached the market in September. At launch, consumers could order them through David Protein’s official website or find them at selected points of sale in New York state. The source did not report wider distribution or production volumes.
The new line follows another expansion of the brand’s range. Several months earlier, David Protein introduced David Frozen Dessert, adding a frozen product format to its portfolio. Both launches use the company’s stated emphasis on protein, convenience and reduced sugar.
Medici Brands has also raised $250m in a Series B investment round. The declared purpose of the financing is to take the David brand into additional product categories. The funding was reported alongside the launch of the milkshakes.
Ultrafiltration and lactase treatment are central to the milkshake formulation. The product is made from a dairy base rather than a non-dairy substitute, while the processing is used to adjust its protein and sugar levels. The company’s recent launches and financing have placed its dairy-based product development alongside its broader expansion of the David Protein range.
