Mazoon Dairy's Role in Enhancing Oman's Domestic Food Supply

On June 27, Mazoon Dairy highlighted its expansion efforts in Oman as part of the country's strategic initiatives to enhance food security and reduce reliance on imports. The company, which commenced operations on October 20, 2019, is located on a 15-square-kilometre site in Al Sinainah, Al Buraimi Governorate. It operates a state-of-the-art dairy farm housing over 12,387 cows and a factory that spans 50,000 square meters, producing various dairy and juice products for local and regional consumption.

The integrated business model of Mazoon Dairy positions it among Oman’s significant investments in food production. This aligns with a global trend where countries are focusing on building resilient supply chains and increasing local production capacities. The dairy farm employs advanced systems for animal care, nutrition, and veterinary oversight, with purpose-built barns maintaining a consistent temperature of about 25°C to support productivity in the Omani climate.

Mazoon Dairy's manufacturing plant boasts a maximum production capacity of 650,000 litres per day, operating 12 production lines to produce approximately 150 products. These range from basic dairy items to specialized products catering to diverse consumer needs. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz al Balushi, Production Planning Lead, noted that the production system is tailored to quickly adapt to market demands while optimizing efficiency.

Automation plays a crucial role in Mazoon Dairy's operations, with manufacturing lines fully automated and packaging lines reaching 80% automation. This technological investment has significantly improved operational efficiency, enhanced product quality, and minimized waste. The company's commitment to quality control and food safety is underscored by daily tests conducted at various stages of production.

Abdulhamid bin Mohammed al Sarmi, Quality Assurance and Quality Control Manager, emphasized that quality assurance is a continuous process that starts from the receipt of raw milk and persists until the final product reaches the consumer. Real-time monitoring and laboratory testing ensure that products meet required specifications before market release.

Mazoon Dairy's approach is emblematic of Oman's broader push under Oman Vision 2040 to develop strategic industries that enhance national food security, foster local value creation, and promote industrial diversification.
