Mastellone Reports Significant Loss Amid Economic Challenges in Argentina
Mastellone Hermanos, known for its La Serenísima brand, reported a substantial loss of ARS 14.053 billion in the first quarter of 2026, compared to a profit of ARS 3.342 billion in the same period of 2025. This financial downturn occurs as the company transitions under the joint management of Arcor and Danone, who have recently acquired full control.
The loss is attributed to several macroeconomic factors, including a decline in domestic consumption driven by reduced purchasing power, which has particularly impacted high-value products like yogurts and desserts. Additionally, rising costs for raw milk, energy, and logistics have further pressured the company's margins.
In March 2026, Arcor-Danone exercised their option to purchase 100% of Mastellone's shares, concluding a significant shift in ownership. The new leadership aims to integrate the marketing and distribution strategies for fluid milk and fresh products to improve efficiency.
Looking ahead, Mastellone plans to focus on exporting powdered milk and hard cheeses to generate foreign currency and service its dollar-denominated debt. The company also intends to optimize logistics by leveraging Arcor's distribution network and to refine its product portfolio to better compete with imported dairy goods and private labels.
