Marathon County Hosts Annual June Dairy Breakfast at NTC

The Marathon County June Dairy Breakfast is set to take place at Northcentral Technical College’s Agriculture Center of Excellence this Sunday, drawing an anticipated crowd of over 3,000 people. This annual event is organized to foster connections between consumers and farmers, with Jenna Breitenfeldt from NTC emphasizing its role in education and community engagement.

Preparations for the event have been ongoing for months, beginning shortly after last year’s breakfast. Official planning commenced in January, with students from the college assisting in fieldwork and farm maintenance. Greg Cisewski, Dean of the School of Agricultural Sciences, Utilities and Transportation at NTC, noted the efforts to ready the venue, particularly the shed where the breakfast will be served.

Beyond food, the event aims to bridge the gap between rural and urban communities, highlighting the realities of dairy farming. Marathon County, known for its significant cow population, provides a backdrop for this educational experience, attempting to dispel common misconceptions about farming.

Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the farm, visit a petting zoo, and explore the latest in farm technology. Julie Bohr, president of the Partnership for Progressive Agriculture, mentioned that the day will feature various activities, including wagon rides, face painting, and bounce houses for children.

Logistical arrangements include parking at NTC’s main campus, with shuttle services transporting attendees to the event site. The breakfast is priced at $10 for adults, $5 for children aged six to eleven, and free for children five and under. The event will run from 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday, June 7.
