Malta Allocates Land for New Dairy Processing Facility

The government of Malta has taken a significant step to enhance its dairy industry by allocating land in Ħal Farruġ for the development of a new milk processing facility. This project will be undertaken by Malta Dairy Products Ltd, with the aim of transforming milk from local farmers in Malta and Gozo into various dairy products.

To ensure a smooth transition and continuous production, the government has decided to extend the lease on Malta Dairy Products Ltd's current premises in Ħamrun until the new facility is fully operational. This move is part of a broader strategy to modernize the agricultural sector and increase its competitiveness.

Agriculture Minister Anton Refalo emphasized that this project is a practical step towards strengthening the agri-food chain and preparing the sector for future demands. He acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the Koperattiva Produtturi tal-Ħalib Group Ltd and Malta Dairy Products Ltd in advancing this initiative.

CEO Alex Briffa of Malta Dairy Products Ltd noted that feasibility studies are currently in progress to ensure the long-term viability of the investment. The company remains focused on supporting farmers and providing a reliable supply of trusted dairy products.

Furthermore, Philip Agius, CEO of the Dairy Producers Group, highlighted the crucial role of the dairy sector in maintaining food security, pointing out the importance of having a consistent and dependable source of nutrition through locally produced fresh milk.

Overall, this initiative reflects an ongoing partnership between the government and the dairy industry, aiming to secure the future of local dairy production and contribute to the national economy.
