Müller's £45m Investment Transforms Skelmersdale Site into a Leading UK Dairy Facility

Müller has announced a substantial investment of £45 million into its Skelmersdale facility, following its acquisition of Yew Tree Dairy in October 2024. This investment aims to transform the site into one of the UK's biggest and most adaptable milk balancing facilities, enhancing its liquid milk production capacity and creating a flagship facility for milk drying.

A major aspect of this initiative is Müller's commitment to its long-term programme designed to ensure supply security and support farmers. The company is rolling out the Müller Advantage programme for Skelmersdale farmers, focusing on responsible sourcing, cow health, and environmental concerns. This effort also includes a revised contract offering to ensure more stable and transparent milk pricing.

From November 2025, Skelmersdale farmers will have the choice of receiving either a Müller Direct Skelmersdale price or a Müller Ingredients price. This change is expected to yield higher and more consistent returns for the majority of farmers, aiding in business planning.

NFU Dairy Board Chair Paul Tompkins expressed support for Müller's investment, viewing it as a testament to the brand's confidence in the future of British dairy. He highlighted the importance of such investments in accommodating record milk volumes and enhancing the value chain, with the ultimate goal of driving British dairy exports.

The entire investment project at Skelmersdale is projected to be completed by the end of 2026, marking a significant step in ensuring fairer pricing and sustainable practices across the dairy industry.
