Lactalis Acquires UK-Based Protein Works to Expand Nutrition Range

French dairy giant Lactalis has announced the acquisition of Protein Works, a UK-based company known for its active nutrition products. Established in 2012 and headquartered in Liverpool, Protein Works offers an extensive range of protein-based nutrition products aimed at improving fitness and wellbeing. Its product line includes protein shakes, meal replacements, wellness supplements, and snacks.

Protein Works operates a fully integrated model, producing its goods in its Liverpool facility and distributing them via a direct-to-consumer online platform. Apart from the UK, the company has a presence in several European countries, including Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, Ireland, Belgium, and Italy. The company reports annual revenues of approximately €65 million.

Lactalis, known for brands such as Président, Galbani, Parmalat, and Leerdammer, views this acquisition as a strategic move to solidify its position in the rapidly growing active nutrition market. The acquisition allows Lactalis to incorporate Protein Works' expertise, digital capabilities, and strong brand reputation into its existing operations. This move is expected to bolster Lactalis' portfolio, which includes brands like Delical in the clinical nutrition sector.
