Lactalis Expands Investment in Brazilian Dairy Production
Lactalis is ramping up its investment in Brazil to bolster cheese and butter production in Minas Gerais. Following a previously allocated $42m across seven plants, the company now dedicates €46.2m ($50m) for a new facility in Uberlândia, aiming for completion by 2027. This includes a new factory for semi-hard prato cheese with an annual capacity of 12,000 tonnes, and a butter line increasing capacity to 10,000 tonnes.

These investments align with an initiative to modernize Lactalis facilities, enhancing their cheese, butter, yogurt, and milk production lines across various states in Brazil. Despite private label competition constraining profit growth, Lactalis reported a turnover increase to €29.5bn in 2023.

The expansion in Brazil follows strategic acquisitions, including the complete acquisition of DPA Brasil and the licensing deal with Tirol to satisfy regulatory demands.
