BISHKEK – In a move aimed at bringing transparency and stability to its dairy sector, Kyrgyzstan has launched a new mechanism for determining the base price of raw milk. The first meeting of the interdepartmental working group tasked with this process took place on December 5th in the Chui region, bringing together a diverse range of stakeholders.
Kyrgyzstan Takes Steps to Stabilize Raw Milk Market with New Pricing Mechanism
Representatives from the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry, local administrations, dairy processors, procurement agents, farmers, and the Dairy Union of Kyrgyzstan were all present, underscoring the collaborative approach being taken. The initiative, as reported by Dairynews.today, signals a potential turning point for the industry.

The new mechanism will see the base price of raw milk established twice a year, reflecting the seasonal variations in production – once for the summer period and again for the winter months. To determine these prices, working groups will be formed, comprising representatives from the government, milk producers, and processors. This inclusive approach aims to balance the interests of all parties involved.

Following deliberations, the proposed price parameters will be submitted to anti-monopoly authorities for review and approval, ensuring fair market practices. Once cleared, the agreed-upon base price will be officially published, providing a benchmark for dairy plants to announce their own purchase prices.

The Kyrgyz government hopes this new system will bring greater transparency to the dairy industry, fostering a more equitable environment for all stakeholders. By stabilizing the market and ensuring fair prices, the initiative is expected to benefit everyone along the supply chain, from the farmers producing the raw milk to the processors turning it into dairy products.

This move towards a more structured pricing mechanism could also encourage greater investment in the dairy sector, leading to increased production and improved quality. With a more stable and predictable market, farmers may be more inclined to expand their operations, while processors can plan their production with greater certainty.

The long-term impact of this new mechanism remains to be seen, but it represents a significant step towards strengthening Kyrgyzstan's dairy industry and ensuring its sustainable growth. By bringing all stakeholders together and prioritizing transparency, the government hopes to create a more robust and equitable market for this essential commodity.
