China Strengthens Food Safety Law

Amendments to the Food Safety Law of the People's Republic of China were adopted at the 17th session of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress. The updated document will come into effect on December 1, 2025.

Key Changes

Control over infant formulas. The law introduces stricter regulations regarding liquid infant formula products. Manufacturers are required to adhere to registered formulations and technical standards. The release of such products in packaged form is prohibited.

Transportation of liquid products. A licensing system is introduced for the bulk transportation of liquid food products by road. The responsibilities of shippers, consignees, and carriers are defined.

Accountability for documentation. Organizations and individuals are prohibited from falsifying transport documents and container cleaning certificates. Severe penalties are imposed for violations.
