This state-of-the-art facility represents a significant commitment from Kerry Dairy Ireland, with substantial backing from Enterprise Ireland and the Irish Government's Capital Investment Scheme for the Processing and Marketing of Agricultural Products. This strategic investment is poised to enhance production capacity by 50%, simultaneously generating 60 new local jobs as part of the company's aggressive expansion plans for the Cheestrings brand.
For nearly three decades, Cheestrings have become a staple in lunchboxes across the UK and Ireland, with approximately 17 Cheestrings consumed every second. The new facility in Charleville will not only boost capacity but also introduce advanced processing capabilities and operational efficiencies.
Peter Burke TD, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, highlighted the government's support for the project, noting it is part financed by the Capital Investment Scheme for the Agri-Food processing sector and supported under the EU Brexit Adjustment Reserve. "This world-class facility will bolster Kerry Dairy Ireland's ability to grow the Cheestrings brand globally while also invigorating the local economy through job creation," Burke stated.
Charlie McConalogue TD, Minister for Agriculture, Food, and the Marine, emphasized the investment's alignment with the government's dedication to supporting the agricultural sector, especially amidst Brexit-related challenges. "This investment not only supports the sustainable development of our agri-food sector but also ensures that our primary producers, particularly dairy farmers, benefit from the value added to our €16 billion export sector," McConalogue added.
Edmond Scanlon, CEO of Kerry Group, reflected on the journey of Cheestrings, describing it as a "fantastic success story" and a testament to innovative, healthy snack production. "This new facility is pivotal to our growth strategy for Cheestrings and reaffirms our commitment to the community," said Scanlon.
Leo Clancy, CEO of Enterprise Ireland, expressed pride in supporting Kerry Dairy Ireland. "The opening of this facility is a testament to Irish innovation and positions Kerry Dairy Ireland as a leader in the global market. We are committed to assisting Irish companies like Kerry Dairy Ireland in elevating their innovation and competitiveness," Clancy remarked.
With the launch of the new facility, Kerry Dairy Ireland sets a new standard in the dairy industry, promising substantial economic and community benefits for Charleville and beyond.
