Kenyan Farmers Receive Delayed Payments from New Kenya Cooperative Creameries

In Trans-Nzoia County, Kenya, farmers recently received Sh300 million in payments from the New Kenya Cooperative Creameries (KCC) after a delay of four months. This payment was confirmed by the Kenya National Farmers Federation, which stated that over 10,000 farmers benefited from the release of funds. The Commodity Representative of the Federation, Tom Nyagechaga, reported that the payments have reached the farmers, ending the financial difficulties they faced due to the delays.

Nyagechaga highlighted that the delayed payments had caused significant distress among farmers, impacting their ability to purchase animal feed and consequently affecting milk production. He stated that the delay had left many farmers unable to meet their financial obligations, including paying for their children's school fees.

The recent government action to clear the payment arrears has been welcomed by the farmers, who can now buy feed and manage their livestock effectively. Nyagechaga also emphasized the importance of timely payments to support the agricultural sector and ensure food production is not compromised.

Farmers expressed relief upon receiving the payments, which have helped restore their financial stability and enable them to continue their farming activities. This move by the government underscores its responsibility to protect and support the farming community in Kenya.
