Every Second Liter of Milk in Ukraine Meets EU Hygiene Standards
One of the key results of the partnership was the implementation of the Raw Milk Control Program (RMCP), which checks the compliance of milk with quality and safety requirements.
The program began in 2015 as a pilot project involving 15 producers, 4 laboratories, and 4 regional units. Today, it covers more than 1000 market operators, 54 authorized laboratories, 500 sampling specialists, and 200 inspectors. Such a scale has created a control system in the country comparable to the European one.
"The results of the Swiss-Ukrainian cooperation are impressive. If in 2015 only 7% of milk was classified as 'extra', now this figure has grown to 55%. This indicates deep structural changes and the sector's alignment with European standards," noted Marco Kroichi, program manager at the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).
An important part of the reforms was the updating of legislation regulating the dairy sector and the creation of the 'Dairy Module' IT platform, which ensures transparent monitoring of laboratory analyses and strengthens trust among market participants.
