The Israeli Ministry of Health has approved the sale of cultured meat based on beef, department press secretary Shira Solomon said on the Telegram channel.
Israel is the first in the world to allow the sale of artificial beef

“The alternative protein pilot program [...] is the first time in the world that a product has been approved that includes a cell culture derived from bovine cells rather than chicken,” Solomon said.

He clarified that permission to sell artificial meat was given to the food technology developer Aleph Farms Ltd.

Israel's National Nutrition Authority continues to negotiate with various alternative protein companies in the country to promote alternative nutrition sources.

In addition to natural animal meat, there are artificial and plant-based meats.

Cultured meats are products created from the culture of cells from an animal, such as poultry or cattle. The peculiarity of such meat is that it has never been part of a real animal - it was grown in laboratory conditions.

Plant-based meat is created from peas, soy or wheat. The British company QUORN has launched the production of products based on mushroom mycelium (the part of the mushroom that is located underground).

Unlike plant-based meat, artificial meat is not a vegetarian product.

In 2020, Singapore became the first in the world to allow chicken-based chicken nuggets to be made from lab-grown meat. The manufacturer of the product was the American company Eat Just.

In March 2021, research firm Research and Markets published a forecast that the plant-based meat market will reach $35 billion by 2027.
