The source of the infection has not yet been identified. McDonald's has restricted the use of freshly sliced onions and beef patties in certain products as part of emergency measures. The first case was reported on September 27, but experts warn that the number of cases may increase, as it takes several weeks to accurately determine the scale of the outbreak.

Confirmed cases have been reported in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Oregon, Utah, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. McDonald's is actively cooperating with authorities to prevent further incidents.
