Investment in Dairy Infrastructure and Fair Payment Needed, Say Small Dairy Producers

Following the announcement of 'Plan Mexico' targeting an 89% increase in milk production, Santos Anchondo, leader of small dairy producers in Chihuahua, emphasized the necessity for fair compensation and investment in existing infrastructure. Anchondo criticized the approach of the secretary, Julio Berdegué, indicating existing milk surpluses are not being purchased, undermining producer confidence. "Without fair pricing and respect for established guarantee prices without subsidies, progress will stagnate," he remarked.
Anchondo urged Liconsa to offer honest prices and disclose working conditions. He also called for assistance in maintaining a cold chain with support for tanks and solar panels to reduce costs. The failure to sell milk at fair prices prevents the activation of the dairy sector, making it vital for Liconsa to fulfill its role in supporting producers.
