Inspection of Dairy Plant and Welfare Schemes in Thoothukudi District

On Saturday, Collector Vishu Mahajan conducted an inspection of the dairy products manufacturing unit operated by the Thoothukudi District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Limited, located in Aniyaparanallur, Srivaikuntam taluk. This facility, constructed with an investment of around ₹46 crore, focuses on producing value-added milk products, including ghee and curd.

The visit was part of a broader initiative to assess the implementation of various welfare schemes and projects within the Srivaikuntam and Eral taluks. During his visit, Mr. Mahajan engaged with women beneficiaries of Self Help Groups (SHGs) in SriMoolakarai panchayat. He inquired about the skill development training provided through the 'Mahalir Thittam' initiative under the Tamil Nadu State Rural Livelihood Mission and evaluated the loan assistance extended to SHG members to support livelihood activities.

Furthermore, Mr. Mahajan visited homes of women who have availed loans through the 'Mahalir Thittam' scheme for cattle rearing, assessing the initiative's impact on income generation and overall livelihood enhancement.

In addition to the dairy plant, the Collector reviewed the progress of the Karungulam-Srivaikuntam stretch of the Karumeniyar river linking project. This project, a longstanding demand from local farmers, aims to improve water availability for irrigation and agriculture within the region.

Mr. Mahajan also inspected the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Boards (TWAD) treatment plant at Manjalneerkayal in Eral taluk, reviewing its operational status. The visit was accompanied by Project Director of Mahalir Thittam, Nagarajan, Deputy Director of Health, Yazhini, and other officials.
