INIFAP trains 40 producers in Campeche on cattle reproduction

The training was organised by INIFAP’s Edzná Experimental Field for participants from Campeche’s dairy sector. Its stated focus was the transfer of reproductive technologies, genetic improvement and cattle-herd management in the state’s tropical conditions.

The event included state and federal officials, among them Roxana Lizbeth Rivera Peña, head of Campeche’s Secretariat of Agricultural Development, and Carlos Emilio Baqueiro Cáceres, the federal agriculture representative. Officials described coordination between institutions and the use of reproductive technologies as strategic elements of livestock development in Campeche.

Specialists from Biotecnologías Reproductivas de México delivered both classroom instruction and practical sessions. The programme addressed the selection of cattle breeds suited to hot climates, the principles of artificial insemination, bull assessment, the reproductive anatomy of female cattle and methods for identifying oestrus at an early stage.

Participants also reviewed hormone-based synchronisation procedures and the handling of cryogenic containers used to preserve genetic material. The sessions covered the manipulation of frozen semen and safety requirements for liquid nitrogen. The source said that accurate handling of these materials is relevant to conception rates in the region’s dairy operations.

Abid F. Moo Cruz, representing the Leche para el Bienestar programme, led the closing activities. The initiative brought together a research institution, government bodies and a social food-supply programme.
