The authorities of the National Capital Territory of Delhi have intensified security measures at the entrances to the Indian capital ahead of the planned Dilli Chalo farmers' march on Tuesday, as reported by India Today channel.
Farmers are conducting their protest, demanding the government to enact a law that will guarantee them minimum support prices (MSP) for future crops. According to TV reports, 200 farmers' unions from neighboring states of Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh plan to participate in the march. Farmers intend to use agricultural machinery in the protest, which is already moving in columns towards the capital.
Due to concerns about potential disorder and security issues, the police have restricted entry to Delhi, barricades are set up at the borders, and the passage of tractors is prohibited. Local residents have been warned about road restrictions.
In accordance with the police order, a complete ban on carrying inflammable substances, homemade weapons, bricks, stones, gasoline canisters, and empty soda bottles will be imposed starting tomorrow. The use of loudspeakers is also prohibited.
The authorities have activated Section 144 of the country's criminal procedure code until next month, which prohibits gatherings of five or more people. Mobile communication may also be blocked under this provision.
