In Turkey, 1 million farmers produce 15 million tons of milk

Turkey is one of the leading milk producers in the world. For instance, around the city of Izmir, where the expert is from, 10% of the country's total milk volume is produced.
According to official statistics, there are 1 million farmers in Turkey who produce approximately 15 million tons of milk annually. Great attention is paid to the quality of this milk, as it is a primary concern in the country's dairy industry.
"In the USA and Europe, the number of farms is increasing, but in Turkey, unfortunately, we are losing farmers, and their well-being is under threat, especially when it comes to small and medium-sized farms," emphasized Sumer Tomek Bayındır.
In her opinion, the future of milk processors involves becoming a vital link between milk producers and consumers of dairy products. This approach could secure sustainable development for the next 20 years. Otherwise, a large number of processing companies will close – a situation currently observed in Europe.
"Low milk quality and mastitis are associated with poor milking equipment, which is where it all begins, especially on small farms. It is estimated that the Turkish economy loses at least 1 billion dollars annually due to negative factors in the chain from producer and processor to consumer. Farmers need solutions to their problems and the right technologies. The better the technology, the higher the efficiency," concluded Sumer Tomek Bayındır.
