Carbery Group recently announced its March milk price along with an extra support payment aimed at assisting farmer suppliers affected by adverse weather conditions.

Noel Murphy, ICMSA's dairy chairperson, highlighted Carbery's initiative in light of recent weather-related bonuses announced by processors, emphasizing the necessity of such support given the prolonged winter and delayed spring.

According to Murphy, farmers across the board are facing increased costs, with particular pressure on those who have had to purchase fodder. He urged other co-ops and milk purchasers to follow Carbery's lead and provide appropriate base prices or bonuses for March, considering the looming bills and challenges ahead.

While advocating for the highest possible milk price, Murphy commended Carbery for actively supporting stressed and exhausted suppliers, setting an example for others to emulate.

Carbery's additional support payment, coupled with a 1c/L increase in its base milk price, is expected to result in an average milk price of 42.19c/L, excluding the extra 5c/L, across the four west Co. Cork co-ops of Bandon, Barryroe, Drinagh, and Lisavaird.

Cormac O’Keefe, Chairperson of Carbery Group, underscored the importance of supporting farmers during challenging times, expressing hope that their initiative would provide relief to farmer shareholders.
