High Oleic Soybeans Enhance Dairy Sustainability
In the realm of sustainable agriculture, innovative solutions are constantly sought after to reduce carbon footprints and boost economic returns. High oleic soybeans have emerged as a potential game-changer for the dairy industry, offering a domestic alternative to imported palm fat.
Josh Fiechter, President of Yoder Grain, emphasizes the importance of this product during the 2025 Indiana Dairy Forum. "It’s a readily accessible American product," Fiechter explains. "They don’t have to rely on palm fat," he adds, highlighting the sustainability and profitability these soybeans can bring.
Unlike traditional soybean oil, which requires hexane extraction, high oleic soybeans can be processed more sustainably by grinding and feeding directly to dairy cows. "Fr om a carbon and energy consumption standpoint, we are considerably lower," states Fiechter, envisioning a promising expansion for this market.
The discussion with Fiechter took place at the Indiana Dairy Forum, wh ere he shared his vision and insights into the future of the dairy industry with the help of sustainable practices.
